Ex Jaguar Jimmy Smith Busted…….again

Late Wednesday afternoon, Jimmy Smith was pulled over in Jacksonville for unknown reasons. Smith pulled over into a gas station where he tried to “use the restroom” and was subsequently arrested and charged for felony possession of cocaine, possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.

Jimmy Smith abruptly retired after the summer after Jaguars made the playoffs in 2005 for the first time since 1999. Jimmy had 977yards and 6 TDs in 2005. After making it to the playoffs, Smith was quoted as saying “I’m overwhelmed right now, its a great day for the franchise”. Most Jaguar fans can agree that move single handedly set the franchise back several years. With rookie receivers needing a veteran player to look up to, the team was left with out our voice. Even though the Jaguars were literally crushed in the first game of the playoffs, everyone in the city of Jacksonville felt the Superbowl was within our grasp for 2006.

Though never proved to be true, rumors in Jacksonville were abound that Smith had failed another drug test and the NFL was on the verge of releasing and suspending him when he decided to retire.

On a day that is supposed to be really exciting with the release of the new Jaguars logo, uniforms and helmet, we as fans are still haunted by the thought of 2006 and what could have been.

Draft day cannot come any sooner.
